The Data Protection Commission (DPC), or An Coimisiún um Chosaint Sonraí, is the Irish Data Protection Authority.

The Data Protection Commissions objective is to provide guidance and advice to controllers. Furthermore, the DPC deals with complaints and makes inspections regarding data protection under GDPR.

The other DPA’s of the EU carefully observes what audits the DPC performs as well as what sanctions it issues. As Ireland is the European home to many tech giants such as Facebook and Google the DPC is the lead regulator of many global suppliers. Because of this, the work of the Data Protection Commission is of particular importance.
